Celebrations in Damascus

The Reuters news agency, citing eyewitnesses, is reporting that thousands of people in cars and on foot are congregating in central Damascus, chanting “Freedom”.

Videos posted online, verified by Al Jazeera, shows several people in the Ummayad Square, standing on an abandoned military tank, and singing in celebration.

Syrian opposition declares ‘start of new era’

The Syrian armed opposition says the end of al-Assad’s rule marks a new chapter in Syria’s history.

“After 50 years of oppression under Baathist rule and 13 years of criminality, tyranny and displacement, and after a long struggle, confronting all sorts of occupation forces, we declare today, December 8, 2024, the end of that dark era and the start of a new era for Syria,” the rebels said in a statement.

The Syrian rebels say they have captured the capital, Damascus, and announced the fall of al-Assad’s government. “The tyrant Bashar al-Assad has fled,” the armed opposition said in a statement.

“We declare Damascus free of the tyrant Bashar al-Assad.”

The rebels hail the purported fall of the Syrian regime as a “moment of freedom after decades of pain and suffering”. “To Syrians abroad all over the world, Syria awaits you,” the armed opposition said in a statement.

This proves again that liberation has to come from within, and will come when outside actors stop interfering (or can no longer interfere)

Who knew something good could come out of these 2 bloody genocides (Gaza and Ukraine). Russia and Hezbollah armies being decimated freed Syria.
