GotY competition this year is looking awfully competitive...and little bit unexpected?
Astro Bot, Wukong, Balatro, and HellDivers 2 all tied for first place. (Each with three awards (out of 18 total).) Final Fantasy isn't putting up much of a fight at the moment...only has one award so far. Same goes for Metaphor. Results are still pretty early, though, so can't really say much honestly.
Should have a clearer idea on how everything will settle out 7d from now. All I can say for now is that (i) HellDivers & Wukong are significantly overperforming expectations, (ii) Astro is doing about as expected, and (iii) JRPGs (Metaphor & FFVII) are signficantly underperforming. It should be noted that Wukong is doing so well solely b/c Readers' Choice awards. It is completely dominating these awards...which doesn't bode well for Wukong ending up as the top winner this year (in total number of awards, nor at TGA, since outlets are going to it).
My odds for TGA GotY have been adjusted substantially (see my first comment in this thread): Astro Bot & Wukong tied at 30% odds, FFVII sitting at 25%, Balatro hovering around 15%, and Metaphor & SotE having virtually no chance of winning.
