For 15-20% of Ukraine
- 100,000+ dead Russians.
- An already shit economy now even worse.
- Half the world now hating you, an enemy for the next 100+ years on your border.
- Expanding NATO, increasing NATO countries defence spending.
- Worsening relations with CSTO ally Armenia.
- Your own allies marching on Moscow that one time.
- Being surrounded in the Baltic Sea, now the NATO Sea.
- Thousands of heavy equipment lost.
Now they may lose Syria and Assad who has been the poster boy of Russian alliances for the past 10 years, Assad was THE fella that Russia could and would point to as an example of them being able to defend an ally who the West all wanted dead, Russia protected this psychopath for years and he may collapse in a few weeks. Russia's entire African operations are at risk if they lose the Syrian ports as well.
I don't really know if I can really point out a better poster boy of Russian protection than Assad. It shows that Russia is fucking weak right now, if they could save Assad they would, just like they have been doing for the past 10+ years but the fact is they can't. If Assad falls it would be a bigger embarrassment than Americas sloppy pull out from Afghanistan because at least that was intentional! Russia is still actively bombing HTS and other rebels to try to help Assad but it's not enough and it's not enough because they do not have the capability whilst bogged down in Ukraine.
This is the best sign to all Russia's enemies and all those living under the authoritarian thumb of Russia's allies that Russia is NOT capable of defending its allies right now, that Russia is too weak right now. Russia cannot aid its allies right now, it can barely handle Ukraine. Now would be the time for those under Russia's thumb further abroad to rise up against their oppressors, as evidenced by Putin's #1 pet project likely falling in the span of a few weeks.
