Israeli forces, Palestinian fighters engaged in heavy clashes in Balata camp

A convoy of Israeli military vehicles has stormed the Balata camp, near Nablus in the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera Arabic reports.

Saraya Al-Quds – Nablus Battalion, the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, have targeted the Israeli forces with “heavy volleys of bullets and explosive devices”, according to the Snd News Agency.

No casualties have been reported so far.

Palestinian ministry deplores theft of vehicle by ‘outlaws’ in occupied West Bank

The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture has condemned the robbery of one of its vehicles by “Palestinian outlaws” in the occupied West Bank’s city of Jenin, as well as the robbery of another vehicle belonging to the Palestinian Authority (PA) military liaison service, and shooting at PA security services offices, the Wafa news agency reports.

The ministry said in a statement that its vehicles in Jenin have always been used to transport aid and assistance to Palestinian farmers and the residents of Jenin’s refugee camp.

The robbery of the vehicle was “a cowardly act alien to our Palestinian society, which certainly serves the occupation”, Wafa quoted the ministry as saying. The ministry also said that members of the PA’s security services, which came under attack overnight, were “our sons, brothers and protectors”.

“We support them and appreciate their role in preserving the security and safety of our country and our people,” the ministry said.

A video clip shared on social media earlier showed what was said to be armed clashes between Palestinian resistance fighters and the PA’s security forces around the Jenin refugee camp overnight.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened earlier / more often, as the PA is often referred to as merely a tool of the occupation.

‘Cannot rest even in death’: Israeli forces confiscate body of slain Palestinian teen

Defense for Children Palestine has accused Israel of again violating international humanitarian and human rights law by confiscating the body of a 15-year-old Palestinian youth who was shot dead by an “Israeli settler guard” in occupied East Jerusalem.

The child rights group said Omar Hussam Yaqoub Shuwaiki, 15, was shot and killed on Tuesday evening in the Silwan neighbourhood, southeast of the Old City of Jerusalem, by a settler employed as a guard by a private security firm.

The teenager was hit with three bullets, the organisation said, and his death was announced some hours later by Israeli authorities who continue to withhold the boy’s body from his family.

“Palestinian children cannot rest even in death as Israeli authorities continue confiscating children’s bodies and withholding them from their families indefinitely,” Defense for Children said in a statement.

Israeli soldiers and settlers have now killed 171 Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem since October 2023, the group said.

Israel has withheld the bodies of Palestinian children from their families since 2016. After releasing six bodies to relatives, there are still 39 children whose remains are detained by Israeli authorities, in what their families say amounts to a practice of “collective punishment”.
