Norway wealth fund divests from Israeli telecom firm over services to settlements
Norway’s sovereign wealth fund says it has divested from Israeli telecom firm Bezeq because it provides services to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The move comes after the Norwegian fund, the world’s largest, said it had adopted a new, tougher interpretation of its ethics standards for businesses aiding Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territory.
The fund has sold all its stock in the company, which is Israel’s largest telecom group.
Israeli settlers attack, set fire to Palestinian home in occupied West Bank
Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic report that an attack by Israeli settlers has taken place in the town of Beit Furik, which is located about 9 km (5.6 miles) northeast of Nablus in the West Bank.
According to initial reports, a home has been set on fire as well as a vehicle. There were no initial reports of casualties.
United Nations monitors warned last week of spiralling violence, including killings, perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinian communities in the occupied territory.
Clashes break out after Israeli military storms Qalqilya
Armed clashes have broken out between Israeli forces and Palestinian fighters in Qalqilya after the Israeli military stormed the occupied West Bank city, raided homes and arrested several people, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.
Israeli military raids have been reported in other locations in the occupied West Bank in recent hours, including:
- The town of Arura, north of Ramallah
- The village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, where clashes have been reported
- The Jalazone camp, north of Ramallah.
Israeli settlers carry out second attack on Palestinian property in Nablus
Israeli settlers have set fire to a vehicle in the occupied West Bank town of Huwara, south of Nablus, according to our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues.
It is the second Israeli settler attack on Palestinian property in the Nablus governorate over recent hours. Earlier, we reported that Israeli settlers torched a home and a vehicle in the town of Beit Furik, northeast of Nablus.
No casualties have been reported in either incident.
Israeli forces arrest 13 Palestinians in occupied West Bank
At least three Palestinians have been arrested in the occupied West Bank’s Bethlehem governorate, and seven more in the Qalqilya governorate, according to the Wafa news agency. Also this morning, three Palestinians were arrested in the Ramallah governorate, Wafa reported.
It also cited local sources as saying that the Israeli forces also stormed the town of Arura, north of the Ramallah city, raiding homes and temporarily detaining more than 20 people for field investigations.
At least 7 Palestinians arrested near Nablus, one more in Hebron
Israeli soldiers have arrested at least seven Palestinians while passing through the Deir Sharaf checkpoint near the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, according to the Wafa news agency.
In a separate incident, a man was arrested in Hebron. Security and local sources told the Palestinian news agency that Israeli forces have set up several military checkpoints at the entrances to the city and areas surrounding it.
The West Bank has been witnessing a surge in mass detentions, military raids and killings by Israeli forces since the start of the war in Gaza. According to Addameer, a prisoners’ rights group based in Ramallah, at least 10,100 Palestinians are in Israeli prisons as of November this year, more than double compared with the previous year.
