Inflation, lack of price cuts, PC gaming on the rise (more expensive but an open platform), Switch's success (doesn't matter but it IS a direct competitor), less cross-gen titles shared between PS3 and PS4 than now, and PS4 Pro launching a year earlier aligned than PS5 Pro.

With all those barriers, it's impressive that PS5 is only about 2.2 million behind. If it ends up 5-10 million units behind, it would still be a big success and possibly more profitable still.

Corrected that for you. Only because a prefered system will not get to the LTD sales of another does not make it a "non competitior". Xbox, Playstation and Switch are competitiors.

PS4 was direct competition to the Wii U. Currently Switch is leading the PS5 but that's because it's been out longer but I don't think the gap will be larger than 100 million like the PS4 and Wii U
