US official says White House has ‘serious questions’ about Gallant dismissal
The Biden administration is concerned about Netanyahu’s decision to fire Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, “especially in the middle of two wars and as Israel prepares to defend against a potential attack from Iran”, the Axios news outlet reports, citing an unnamed official.
The official continued that the White House was “very surprised” by the move and has “real questions about the reasons for Gallant’s firing and about what is driving the decision”.
Israeli watchdogs petition High Court against Gallant’s dismissal
The Israel Democracy Guard and the Movement for Quality Government (MQG) have filed petitions to the High Court of Justice against Defence Minister Yoav Gallant’s dismissal, according to The Times of Israel newspaper.
“The firing of the defense minister in the midst of a war, and while the State of Israel is under an unprecedented multifront threat, was made out of ulterior and narrow political motives,” the report says citing MQG.
The Israel Democracy Guard has demanded that the court freeze Gallant’s dismissal until a ruling on its petition, the newspaper said.
