People who cared about her race weren't going to vote for someone with her politics regardless and being older wouldn't have made any more difference than it did with Hilary. On the other hand, the fact that she is a politician from California probably did her no favors. In the eyes of many it's the political equivalent of being a regular at Diddy's parties.
That reminds me, though, that I found the "if men don't vote for Kamala then it's because she's female" talking point to be a real negative. It felt like they were going for some kind of emotional manipulation ploy while setting up an easy excuse at the same time. They'd be a lot better off acknowledging and fixing their own mistakes.
