Is it just me or does the number to beat "PS2" often change? |
Because Sony tend to speak about "sold-through" numbers instead of shipped.
In 2012, they had sold through to customers more than 155m, units.
These are the last numbers we were told.
However, that means there could be a few million more sitting on shelves in stores, not mentioned to us.
Ontop of that, they still kept making the PS2 and selling it for a few more years.
So it makes sense to assume, it's over 155m....
The question is by how much?
We know they made (production) more than a 160m units.... something like 161m+
Did they sell them all to consumers? We don't know.
We have guess work. (Here on VGcharts, our best guess is 158.7m units)
And.... we have words of a Sony guy on a podcast and a interview, claiming that eventually it went over 160m.
Thats it.
SO you get to choose who to believe.
Is it 158.7m ? is it 160m (like a sony guy said)? does production limit matter? like the most possible would be 161m something.
Switch sells (they use shipping numbers) 162m.... non of that matters.
Its then the indisputable king of consoles.
