Of course this plays a big role. PS3 was not running too well. But if a console maker really hits a milestone of 160 million units, its gonna be announced right after discontinuation and not 11 years later as a sidenote in a random podcast. Its like some Microsoft guy would type a fantasy number on his Xbox 360 and tell us 88.253.456- in memory of the last produced Xbox 360. Who would believe that? It would just be a poor move, a number wich has never even been produced just to make it seem like the competitior (next target in sales ranking) would be surpassed.- Like what happened with the PSP. I know it sounds like hate but is Sony where we do not know the final number of some systems. I smell like Sony could do the same with the PS4 wich was discontinued in 2022. Printing a fantasy number on it wich make it seem like it outsold the Gameboy. Or of course the Xbox 360 with a fantasy number because we do not have official numbers. Or Nintendo lumping together Game Boy and Game Boy Color just to make it seem it outsold the PSone wich it certenly didn't. The GB and the GBC are 2 different systems. Just for the books: I know this topic could lead to "WW3" but thats the way i see it.
