Yeah but these are Zelda hardcores. I bet this game would have been met with more praise had they let Zelda weild a sword at some point (not just a CD) and had a better UI for getting to what you need to conjure quicker. Those are the two main points everyone hates aswell as the dungeons but the dungeons would be improved by adding those two things.

doesn't matter how "hardcore" they may be, esp when this game chooses such a radically different take on the gameplay loop (hence, "hardcore" backlash isn't anything too shocking). Again, the disappointed tend to be the most vocal: TotK, Mario Wonder, TTYD, GoW:R, SM2, HFW, BG3, FFVIIReBirth, Dragon's Dogma 2, Helldivers 2, etc., demonstrate this vocal minority concept all too well. And while the only social media platform I use it VGChartz (with maybe ten minutes devouted to glancing at Twitter), I can't say I've seen too much disappointment among the ppl I follow, though it certainly is an instance of you either love it or hate it. There's an agreed upon consensus that the UI is a mess (as it was in TotK), but all-in-all, the ppl who do enjoy the game (which is a heavy majority) have been gushing over it.

Getting back to your original comment: I don't agree with your theory of this "Nintendo bump" on Zelda EoW, especially when it's review score places it below all mainline 2D and 3D Zelda games, as well puts it below even top 20 top rated games of the year. It certainly is a game worthy of its acclaim, even if it lacks that same Zelda polish we all have come to know. Also, I don't understand why you've been so insistent in asserting Zelda EoW as being a disappointment? I feel like we already had this discussion, and it was literally on the same day the game launched...? Not sure why you want to believe the game is bad lol, just seems like unneeded negativity.

Yes agreed it is usually the most hardcore fans that most hate the thing they claim to love because they are the ones that have very specific opinions of how the thing should be.

But yeah agree with what LegitHyperbole said. The no fighting is the major turnoff (and I guess when you get into the game the UI for selecting echoes is also a turnoff based on what people here are saying). The game looked awesome, right up until I realized after watching the trailer that they entirely switched out fighting with Echoes. As soon as I realized Zelda doesn't actually fight that was an instant huge turnoff for me and the game went from a must-buy to a probably won't buy all in that instant, to eventually a definitely won't buy.

A very large part of the Zelda formula and the fun of the series is combat with weapons. They unfortunately decided to make a unique Zelda-spinoff as the first Zelda-focused game rather than throw Zelda into a typical LoZ game, that alone drastically hurt the quality and sales of this game. Any other complaints (bad echoes UI, too easy, dungeons that don't stand out) are secondary to the fact that you don't even fight in the game. After years of waiting for a new 2D Zelda on Switch Nintendo was like here's what you've been waiting for: Zelda without fighting lol. Heck look at BotW, one of the best games ever and a massive revolution for LoZ, and yet there were certainly disappointing things about it like lack of standard dungeons, but that just meant it was a 10/10 game rather than like the most perfect game ever. Just imagine if you couldn't even fight in BotW...it would have been a massive fail even if all the other amazing and revolutionary stuff about the game stayed the same.

At some point Nintendo needs to realize adding a new mechanic (sometimes called a gimmick) is not worth it if you actually take away a main mechanic that people play the game for!
