Xbox cannot financially support the exclusive development of a dozen or more 100~ million dollar budget games with the install base they have currently.
Microsoft is *very* good at making money, so this was the natural progression of things, it's great for Playstation, PC and Nintendo gamers, not so great for Xbox as a platform as it looses any "special" appeal... Which is sad to see as the hardware is actually very very good.
Even now, whenever I walk into EB Games, the Xbox shelves are a fraction of the size of even the Playstation 4/5/Switch section... And often I need to hunt around for a physical copy. I.E. Most Recently with Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, no one had it in stock locally so had to drive a few hours.
It will be interesting to see if Xbox continues past the next generation.
