It’s time for the Friday news:

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is trouncing the fighting game competition on Steam, with nearly double Street Fighter 6's all-time players record
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fighting/dragon-ball-sparking-zero-is-trouncing-the-fighting-game-competition-on-steam-with-nearly-double-street-fighter-6s-all-time-players-record/
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero released on Steam earlier today and, oh boy, it's doing numbers. At the time of writing there are 121,330 players according to SteamDB which, with a little bit of context, proves to be an overwhelming number.
Cast your mind back to June 2023 when Street Fighter 6 released on Steam. Many pointed out at the time that its launch-day concurrents were huge for a fighting game, and that was true: it compared favourably to Mortal Kombat 11 and Tekken 7, for example (35,147 and 18,966 respectively). Right now Street Fighter 6 has an all-time peak of 70,573 corresponding with its launch window. Dragon Ball, let me repeat, is currently sitting at 121,330 players.
(I just refreshed the SteamDB page and it's now up to 122,431. Wow.)
Metaphor: ReFantazio is the new fastest-selling game in Atlus' history, selling a million copies in its first day
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/metaphor-refantazio-is-the-new-fastest-selling-game-in-atlus-history-selling-a-million-copies-in-its-first-day/
Metaphor: ReFantazio releases today, but you probably already know that. In fact, there's a decent chance you already own it. Atlus is bragging that the game—its tale of high-fantasy racism fought by fake David Bowie—has already sold a million copies across all platforms
In a (machine-translated) post on its own site, Atlus announced that "total worldwide sales (packaged version shipped + download version sold) have surpassed 1 million copies!" As is company tradition, the studio got artist Shigenori Soejima to throw together a quick celebratory sketch of Gallica—pretty much the game's equivalent to Persona 5's mascot Morgana or Persona 4's Teddie—to mark the occasion.

Free fan game Sonic Project Reignition promises to bring the Nintendo Wii exclusive, Sonic and the Secret Rings, to the PC
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/free-fan-game-sonic-project-reignition-promises-to-bring-the-nintendo-wii-exclusive-sonic-and-the-secret-rings-to-the-pc/
Now here is something that passed under my radar. Last month, a demo was released for Sonic Project Reignition. Project Reignition is a fan-remake of the 2007 Wii title, Sonic and the Secret Rings. Since this Sonic game never came out on any other platform, you can now experience it via this fan game on PC.
Sonic Project Reignition is using the Godot game engine, and aims to bring Secret Rings to modern standards. As such, you can expect standard controller support, updated visuals, and improved gameplay. Pretty cool, right?
The demo contains every single mission from Sand Oasis and Dinosaur Jungle. These are the first two proper areas of the game. It also features over 30 skills and an experience system.
The devs have also changed the game’s Ranking System. So now, you’ll have to finish the stage as fast as possible and link actions together to earn bonuses and build up your final score.

After 11 years, Doom 2 got a Doom 3 Mod, featuring 2 whole chapters, 36 new tracks and 20+ hours of gameplay
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/after-11-years-doom-2-got-a-doom-3-mod-featuring-2-whole-chapters-36-new-tracks-and-20-hours-of-gameplay/
Modder ‘camaxide’ has been working on a direct sequel mod for Doom 2 for the past 11 years, and has just released to the public. This mod, called Doom III, takes place right after the events of Doom 2. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
The Doom 3 Mod features two new chapters of new levels with multiple playable characters. For instance, you can play as Doom Guy, Doom Gal, or one of the other selectable characters. These chapters are playable in both solo and co-op modes.
Alongside the well-known Doom monsters, there are also many additional monsters. You can also expect to find new items, weapons and power-ups to help you fight back the demons.
In total, this mod offers 20+ hours of gameplay, with extra modes, collectibles, achievements and unlocks. It also has 36 new music tracks.
Now the reason this mod is called Doom III is because it’s a sequel to Doom II. This has nothing in common with id Software’s Doom 3 game, which came out in 2004 and was a reboot.

Thanks to its all-encompassing Randomizer mod, Deus Ex has gotten a festive Halloween update with game modes and modifiers to turn it into a survival horror game
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/thanks-to-its-all-encompassing-randomizer-mod-deus-ex-has-gotten-a-festive-halloween-update-with-game-modes-and-modifiers-to-turn-it-into-a-survival-horror-game/
The Deus Ex Randomizer, an extensive mod for customizing playthroughs of the classic immersive sim, has just delivered something I'd never thought I'd see: A seasonal update for Ion Storm's twisty cyberpunk noir, complete with Halloween-appropriate level decorations and new, survival horror-themed modes.
The Deus Ex Randomizer has always gone above and beyond in how it remixes the immersive sim classic—at this point, it can serve as one-stop shopping for customized playthroughs with compatibility for multiple mods and extremely granular options for tweaking the game. You can choose how randomized the maps in a playthrough will be, and in what ways, with enemies, NPCs, objectives, passwords, and even start/exit points on the table. On the most extreme end, the "WaltonWare" mode breaks the game up into bite-sized chunks for quick play sessions, dropping you into random (and randomized) maps with a list of objectives that are more Jackass than immsim.
In the spirit of Halloween, mod author Die4Ever added in new modes and criteria predominantly inspired by survival horror games. You can now activate limited saves like the old Resident Evil typewriter ribbons, requiring you to find "Memory Containment Units" and save your game at computers or public terminals. There's also an option to make killed enemies rise as zombies after a 20-second delay, as well as a mechanic that lets you loot "costumes" from downed enemies to then wear around.
You also naturally get the de rigueur jack-o-lanterns and spiderwebs tastefully arranged on these familiar maps. My favorite new feature is probably "Mr. H," a beefy Terminator-type guy who will pursue you through the levels and who can't be killed, a clear homage to survival horror standbys like Resident Evil's Tyrant. All of these options come packaged in an umbrella "Halloween mode" or can be applied a la carte with other adjustments.

Satisfactory 1.0 finally has mod support, and the revamped mod manager now supports dedicated servers too
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/satisfactory-1-0-finally-has-mod-support-and-the-revamped-mod-manager-now-supports-dedicated-servers-too/
A month to the day since Satisfactory left early access, the community-driven mod manager has been updated to support version 1.0. Satisfactory Mod Manager v3.0 was "rewritten from scratch for better performance and smaller size" and includes some pretty significant new features, including support for installing and managing mods on dedicated servers and a brand new UI.
Most important, of course, is just that mods will now work with the version of Satisfactory that everyone is playing. For the last month modders have been stuck on the final early access release of Satisfactory, unable to take advantage of the very nice additions in 1.0. If you download the latest release of the mod manager from Github, it'll now play nice with the default version of the game you can download via Steam.
Mods themselves, however, aren't all going to work immediately.
"Remember, every mod needs to be revised and recompiled under the new engine setup! Just like any major update, some mods may take days, others weeks, others will sadly never be updated," warns today's announcement on the Satisfactory modding Discord. "Please keep in mind that all of this formidable work is done by volunteers in their free time, and be patient. Use the Compatibility Information icons in the Mod Manager and on Ficsit.app (the rocket and the flask) to tell if a mod is ready for 1.0."
