Israeli helicopters bomb Rafah

Our colleagues on the ground are reporting that Israeli helicopters have bombed the centre of Rafah in southern Gaza. We will bring you more on this and all the latest from Gaza as soon as we can.

A reminder that at least 10 Palestinians have been killed across Gaza by Israeli forces since dawn today.

‘Carnage in Gaza continues’

With the world’s eyes on the attacks on Lebanon, the carnage in Gaza continues with a high civilian death toll.

The last few hours have been incredibly bloody. At least 10 people killed since dawn today. The number is expected to rise with the ongoing rescue efforts being undertaken by front-line emergency workers who are scrambling to recover bodies from under the rubble of destroyed buildings, especially in Jabalia.

There are also very active military movement and surveillance drones in central Gaza.

Gaza death toll rises

At least 42,126 people have been killed and 98,117 wounded in Israeli military attacks on Gaza since last October.

Gaza’s Health Ministry added that 61 Palestinians were killed and 231 wounded in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

Concerns over impact on polio campaign due to Israel’s Gaza evacuation orders

Officials have voiced concerns that Israel’s evacuation orders for northern Gaza might affect the second polio vaccination campaign set to start next week.

“I am concerned about the developments in the north, and specifically with these evacuation orders,” Rik Peeperkorn, WHO representative for the occupied Palestinian territory, told reporters in Geneva.

Jean Gough, UNICEF special representative in the State of Palestine, also voiced concerns and described the conditions as “more complicated” than in the first phase of the vaccination campaign last month.
