Yes I agree that I'm more excited to boot up a game I paid (full prize) on, than I play for free, demo or have in a subscription. It definitely improves my experience, even though it's my brain playing tricks on me.

It's confirmation bias. People like to be confirmed they spend their money well and will automatically be inclined to like the product more.
