As Israel attacks, 400,000 Palestinians trapped in north Gaza: UN

At least 400,000 people are ensnared in northern Gaza after the Israeli army again issued evacuation orders for residents, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees says.

“Israeli authorities are forcing people to flee again & again, especially from Jabalia camp. Many are refusing because they know too well that no place anywhere in Gaza is safe,” UNRWA chief Filippo Lazzarini said.

UNRWA shelters and services are being forced to shut down, some for the first time since the start of the conflict, he said.

At least 20 killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza

At least 20 people have been killed during the night and early hours in air strikes as the Israeli army continues to target residential buildings, public facilities, and infrastructure across Gaza. Here is a breakdown of the casualties:

  • Nine members of the Farahat family were killed inside a house they were sheltering in. They were from Shujayea neighbourhood, east of northern Gaza City.
  • Four members, including two children, of the al-Jamal family were killed in an air strike that targeted their home in central Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp.
  • A war-displaced family of four was also killed inside their tent in Nuseirat.
  • A family of three, one child included, was killed in a bombing of their home in the nearby Bureij refugee camp.

‘No tunnel too deep’: Israeli flyers threaten Hamas chief Sinwar

Israeli media report Israel dropped flyers over the Gaza Strip that promise Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar will face the same fate as other leaders fighting against Israel.

“No tunnel is too deep, Sinwar. Ask Sayyed Hassan,” the flyer says, in a reference to the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an underground facility. “There will be no safe place underground, nor above the surface of the Earth, and nothing will protect them from being buried deep in the ground,” it says in Arabic.

It also showed images of other assassinated leaders such as Hamas deputy political leader Saleh al-Arouri.

At least 43 killed in Gaza as Jabalia attack wreaks havoc

We previously reported at least 20 people, including three children, were killed across Gaza overnight. The death toll has now risen to 43, according to medical sources who spoke to our Al Jazeera colleagues.

Nearly half were killed in the northern Jabalia refugee camp where the Israeli army is leading a ground assault for a fifth consecutive day.

There are about 400,000 people trapped in the north of the Strip, the UN says, as families refuse to leave for the south, or have no way to move after the Israeli army issued new evacuation orders.
