Israeli ex-security chief: No complete victory possible in Gaza, Lebanon

The former head of Israel’s National Security Council, Giora Eiland, says Israel will not be able to achieve “complete victory” in Gaza or Lebanon.

In an interview with the Israeli Channel 12, Eiland reiterated Hamas and Hezbollah “will not surrender and there will always be those who continue to fire”. He added that continuing the war on two fronts won’t serve Israel’s interest and it would be “wise” to open the door to political settlements.

“It is unfortunate to continue believing that military pressure in Gaza and Lebanon alone can achieve salvation,” Eiland said.

Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s armed wing, earlier launched a barrage of missiles from southern Gaza towards Tel Aviv on the anniversary of the deadly October 7 attack.

Qassam, al-Quds fighters report clashes with Israeli forces in Jabalia

The armed wings of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad say they engaged in armed clashes with Israeli soldiers in the refugee camp in northern Gaza.

Qassam Brigades reported close combat with Israeli forces penetrating west of the Jabalia camp, claiming its fighters killed and wounded troops. For its part, al-Quds Brigades said it was fighting soldiers who attempted to infiltrate the Block 2 area of the camp.

The groups made the statements in separate posts on Telegram. The Israeli army recently started a large-scale operation in northern Gaza.

Israeli army calls on Palestinians to leave Khan Younis

The military ordered civilians in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza to evacuate to the so-called “humanitarian zone” in al-Mawasi.

Avichay Adraee, the Israeli army’s Arabic-speaking spokesman, said on X the recent rocket attack on central Israel claimed by Hamas’s armed wing “will be met with extreme force”.

“Because of Hamas’ terrorist acts … you must evacuate these areas immediately and move to the humanitarian area in al-Mawasi,” said Adraee.

The army said earlier the rockets were launched from Khan Younis, with medics reporting two minor injuries in Tel Aviv.

Israeli warplanes destroyed the rocket launchers in southern Gaza that carried out an earlier attack on the centre of the country.

“During the attack, secondary explosions were seen, indicating the presence of weapons,” according to a military statement. The morning attack was claimed by Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas. Israeli medics said two people were lightly wounded in central Israel.

The Israeli army said the rockets were fired from Khan Younis, calling for civilians to evacuate the area.

Palestinians in Gaza targeted with more Israeli air strikes

The people are affected by this anniversary because the war is still ongoing. There are continuous Israeli air strikes and there are also continuous evacuation orders.

Israeli forces just struck the Jabalia refugee camp where they targeted a group of Palestinians. At least eight Palestinians were killed.

Among them is the brother of our cameraman Ibrahim. Ibrahim’s family have been separated, some of them stayed in the north, he evacuated to the south with other family members. They survived an Israeli attack on Jabalia in November 2023 and now his brother was killed today.

This is one of the stories of Palestinian families that have been enduring 365 days of Israel’s war.

Another ground invasion is happening in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, especially Jabalia and Beit Lahia. There have also been new evacuation orders in southern Khan Younis.
