Biden says US prepared to help Israel defend itself from Iran attacks

US President Joe Biden says the United States is prepared to help Israel defend itself from Iranian missile attacks and to protect the American military in the region.

“We discussed how the United States is prepared to help Israel defend against these attacks, and protect American personnel in the region,” Biden said on X about a meeting held with Vice President Kamala Harris and the White House national security team earlier in the day.


Tel Aviv resident says sirens still being heard

Al Jazeera has just spoken to Akiva Eldar, a Tel Aviv resident, who has been sharing what’s been happening in the last few minutes. “We’re not far from the Ministry of Defence and the Israeli military HQ and we’re still hearing sirens in Tel Aviv,” he said.

“We’re not really safe as long as war is still on. There have been clear instructions to stay in the safe rooms and bomb shelters, whoever has them in their houses.”

There were visible interceptions in the sky this time, followed by loud booms.

The Israeli military has urged people in the country to “stay in the protected area until further notice”.

“The explosions you hear originate from interceptions or falls,” it said in a statement.


Jordan suspends air traffic, Israel grounds flights

Jordan’s state news agency reports that it has suspended air traffic temporarily.

Israeli Army Radio reports meanwhile that take-offs and landings have been halted at Ben-Gurion Airport.
