China’s defence minister calls for talks to resolve Israel-Palestine conflict

China’s top annual security conference is taking place in Beijing, with delegates from more than 90 countries in attendance.

China’s Defence Minister Dong Jun on Friday touted negotiations as the “only way” of resolving issues like Israel’s war on Gaza and wider tensions in the Middle East, as well as the war in Ukraine.

Riyad Mansour meets with new UNGA president

Palestine’s ambassador to the UN met with new UN General Assembly (UNGA) President and Cameroonian politician Philemon Yang, on Friday at UN headquarters in New York.

The Wafa news agency said Riyad Mansour raised the UNGA’s upcoming meeting of the Tenth Emergency Special Session, which on September 17 will tackle Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories.

At the meeting, UN members are expected to vote on a draft resolution – based on the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation – calling for Israel’s complete withdrawal from the West Bank within six months.

The 79th session of the UNGA opened on September 10, with Palestine enjoying upgraded rights as an observer state for the first time.


Turkish intelligence chief, Hamas leaders discuss Gaza ceasefire

Turkey’s media outlet Hurriyet is reporting that the country’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT) chief, Ibrahim Kalin, held talks with Hamas leaders in Ankara to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza.

The report said that the discussions focused on the ongoing negotiations, including sticking points such as the release of captives, as well as ways to facilitate the entrance of humanitarian aid.


UAE not to take part in Gaza’s ‘day after’ without Palestinian state

Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, says his country is “not ready to support the day after the war in Gaza without the establishment of a Palestinian state”.

The top diplomat spoke about plans for the governance and reconstruction of Gaza after the war in the remarks he made on X.
