We are sleepwalking to dystopia - UN rights chief Volker Turk to Human Rights Council



On 9 September 2024, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk updated the UN Human Rights Council on pressing human rights issues worldwide. In an expansive speech that examined broad trends concerning human rights today, Mr. Turk said that the world faced a choice: "We can either continue on our current path—a treacherous ‘new normal’—and sleepwalk into a dystopian future. Or we can wake up and turn things around for the better, for humanity and the planet."
