Israeli army announces new evacuation order in south

The Israeli spokesperson for Arabic language media has announced a new evacuation order for the Gaza Strip.

Residents were warned to evacuate several areas in Khan Younis governorate in southern Gaza, including Bani Suheila, Sheikh Nasser, Barbakh and as-Satr al-Gharbi, Avichay Adraee posted on X.

The order comes after thousands of Palestinians fled parts of Deir el-Balah as the Israeli military issued an evacuation order and its forces advanced deeper into the overcrowded central Gaza city.

The Israeli military has targeted areas it had designated as safe zones on several occasions previously, killing Palestinians taking refuge there.

Palestinians fleeing Deir el-Balah as Israeli forces attack

Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum says residents of Deir el-Balah are now looking for new areas to flee to after Israeli forces pushed deeper into the city in central Gaza.

“The Israeli army is starting a new military incursion in the eastern areas, with residents in certain blocks asked to flee to the western parts,” he reported.

“We have seen families since yesterday morning until now who are fleeing from these areas. The cars are loaded with basic furniture … and they are looking for any empty space of land in order to set up their tents, despite the lack of any humanitarian aid, including food and water.”

Moreover, Abu Azzoum said, Israeli army operations were not only taking place in central Gaza but continued “to expand to the northern and southern parts” of the Gaza Strip.

An unknown number of people have been injured as a result of an Israeli attack on a barracks belonging to the al-Zaq family on Salah al-Din Street, east of Nuseirat camp.

The attack comes after thousands of Palestinians fled parts of Deir el-Balah following a new evacuation order, as the Israeli military advanced deeper into the overcrowded central Gaza city.

Israeli soldier killed in southern Gaza

The Israeli military has announced the death of 19-year-old Ori Ashkenazi Nechemya, who it said was killed in battle in southern Gaza. Nechemya, from Ashkelon, was a soldier in the 401st Brigade’s 46th Battalion, and was killed by an anti-tank missile.

Israel has acknowledged the death of more than 330 of its soldiers since its ground invasion of Gaza began on October 27.

Hamas and other Palestinian groups have retained the capability to attack Israeli forces, despite several months of Israeli bombing that has decimated the Gaza Strip.
