Bernie Sanders calls for ‘immediate ceasefire’ in DNC speech

The progressive US legislator received applause and cheers from the audience as he briefly addressed the war in Gaza during a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

“We must end this horrific war in Gaza,” Sanders said on the second night of the convention. “Bring home the hostages and demand an immediate ceasefire,” he added.

Too bad Bernie can't do anything.

Delegates at DNC hold up names of Palestinians killed in Gaza

Delegates at this year’s DNC include 30 people representing the ‘uncommitted movement’ who hope to influence the Harris-Walz campaign to end unconditional US support for Israel’s war on Gaza.

One of the signs carried the name of Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha, 25, who was among the seven World Central Kitchen workers killed in an Israeli attack on April 4, 2024. Another delegate held a sign with the name of Jihad Khaled Abu Amer, a two year-old killed in an Israeli attack on October 23, 2023.

This would have made an impact with 40,000 people holding up the names of all that have been confirmed killed so far. To visualize, that's the capacity of the Chigao United center and Milwauke Fiserv Forum combined.

That's how many people have been (confirmed) killed by Israel in Gaza so far.

Several pro-Palestinian protesters arrested in Chicago

The Associated Press news agency is reporting that dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters charged a line of police in an “intense standoff” with hundreds of police officers in the US city of Chicago on the second night of the Democratic National Convention.

The confrontations took place in front of a Chicago skyscraper that houses the Israeli consulate, the agency reported. More than a dozen protesters were arrested, it said.

There was no immediate comment from the Chicago Police Department.

The AP said at least 13 pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested in Chicago on Monday for breaching the outer security fence at the venue hosting the DNC.
