Hezbollah claims attack on northern Israel

The Lebanese armed group said it fired artillery shells at Israeli soldiers in the vicinity of the Zar’it military barracks in northern Israel. The claim came as Israel’s YNet News reported rocket warning sirens in Zar’it.

Earlier, YNet said Hezbollah had fired some 135 rockets at Israel on Tuesday.

Israel confirms attacks on Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley

The Israeli military says its fighter jets carried out attacks on Hezbollah’s ammunition depots and an air defence system in the Bekaa Valley, deep inside Lebanon. “Following the strikes, secondary explosions were identified, indicating the presence of large amounts of weapons in the facilities that were struck,” it said.

The military also claimed attacks on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, including Abu Sash, Wadi Hamool, Aita al-Shaab, Ramiya and Talousa.

Earlier, we reported that Israeli attacks on Bekaa killed at least one person and wounded 20 others. Videos posted online, verified by Al Jazeera, showed the moment Israeli jets attacked Bekaa.

Rocket attack targets Golan Heights, one injured: Reports

Dozens of rockets, about 30, have been fired from Lebanon towards the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, reports our correspondent on the ground. Some of the rockets hit the Israeli settlement of Katzrin, damaging a building and causing fires to break out, Israeli media reported.

At least one person – a 30-year-old man – has been injured by shrapnel from the rocket barrage, according to Israel’s Army Radio.

Video shows house hit by Hezbollah rocket in Golan Heights

At least 30 rockets were fired, according to our correspondent on the ground, in what Hezbollah said in an official statement was an attack targeted at the Israeli army’s Tsnobar logistics base. Israeli media is reporting the size of the salvo at about 50 rockets.

The group said that the attack was carried out with Katyusha rockets and was in retaliation for yesterday’s massive Israeli air strikes on the Bekaa Valley, which injured at least 20 people and killed one.

Video taken by Magen David Adom, Israel’s paramedic service, and posted by Israeli Army Radio, shows a house in the Israeli settlement of Katzrin burning after it was hit by one of Hezbollah’s rockets.

Government has ‘lost control’ of north, says Israel’s Lapid

Opposition leader Yair Lapid has blamed the government for “losing control” of the north after a barrage of missiles from Lebanon struck the illegal settlement of Katzrin, sparking fires and injuring at least one person.

In a post on X, Lapid, a critic of Prime Minister Netanyahu and his coalition government, wrote: “A direct hit in … Katzrin. The government has lost control of the north.”

Lebanon’s FM calls for investigation into Majdal Shams attack

Abdallah Bou Habib, Lebanon’s top diplomat, met today with Major General Patrick Gauchat, chief of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO).

The country’s National News Agency (NNA) said that Bou Habib expressed hope that the UN would release a report on the Majdal Shams incident during the meeting, saying “This report would clarify the facts and discredit Israel’s justification of ‘self-defense’ for its assault on Beirut’s southern suburbs on July 30, 2024”.

In July, at least 12 people were killed and 30 others wounded in a rocket attack on a football pitch in the town of the Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Israel blamed Hezbollah for this attack and used it as justification for a strike on Beriut’s southern suburbs, which killed a senior military commander, dramatically escalated regional tensions and brought the Lebanese group and Israel closer to all-out war.

Hezbollah, which has been carrying out daily attacks on Israeli territory in sympathy with Palestinians since last October, denied responsibility for the deaths in Majdal Shams.

According to the NNA, the UN’s Gauchat warned of the increasing risk of escalation along the Lebanon-Israel border and affirmed that UNTSO is actively monitoring the situation on both sides.
