Four Palestinians killed in Israeli attack on Deir el-Balah

The Wafa news agency is reporting that Israeli forces killed at least four Palestinians in an air raid on central Deir el-Balah on Saturday evening. The raid on the house in the al-Hakr area wounded several more people.

Earlier, we reported that five other Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks on Khan Younis and Jabalia. According to Al Jazeera Arabic’s tally, at least 48 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since dawn on Saturday.

Four Palestinians killed in Israeli attack on Jabalia

The Wafa news agency is reporting that at least four Palestinians were killed and several others wounded after Israeli aircraft bombed two apartments in the Jabalia refugee camp, in the north of the Gaza Strip.

Rescue workers found children and women among those buried under the rubble at the site, Wafa added. The killings come after a bloody day in which Israeli forces killed at least 48 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.

Families in Sheikh Zeid refuse to leave despite new Israeli orders

The Israeli military spokesman, Avichay Adraee, has published new evacuation orders for Beit Hanoon, Sheikh Zeid, and some parts of Beit Lahiya in an attempt to take full military control of the northern parts of the Gaza Strip.

I’m here in Sheikh Zeid and people here are refusing to evacuate or move because they are tired of evacuating over and over. Civilians here have their stalls open and are still taking shelter in schools in Sheikh Zeid.

They are telling us that Israeli forces are lying and there are no safe places left and they have learned a lesson from al-Tabin and Hamama schools in the Gaza City. That’s where Israeli forces earlier this month launched missile attacks that killed more than 100 displaced Palestinians.

That’s why people say they prefer to stay here rather than follow the Israeli orders by moving and risk getting killed.

More Palestinians killed, wounded in Israeli attack on Gaza City

Al Jazeera Arabic’s correspondent on the ground is reporting that at least one Palestinian was killed and several others wounded after Israeli forces shelled a house in the Sabra neighbourhood of northern Gaza City.

The attack followed Israeli bombardment of the Jabalia refugee camp in the north, Deir el-Balah in the centre and Khan Younis in the south. At least 12 Palestinians were killed and many more wounded in those attacks.

In Jabalia, where Israeli forces struck an apartment building, rescue workers are digging through rubble with their bare hands to look for survivors.

IRC warns of ‘alarming gap’ in care for unaccompanied children in Gaza

The International Rescue Committee is sounding the alarm over the risk of increased family separations in the Gaza Strip as Israeli forces order more mass evacuations and step up deadly attacks and arrests across the Palestinian enclave.

The US-based group said its assessments indicate the number of unaccompanied children in Gaza is far higher than UNICEF’s estimates of 17,000, and said doctors are reporting finding children without surviving family members living in hospitals due to a lack of alternative care arrangements.

“The situation for children in Gaza is extremely dire,” said Ulrike Julia Wendt, IRC’s emergency child protection coordinator.

“The ongoing conflict puts children’s health and wellbeing at severe risk … A psychologist I spoke to in Gaza last month mentioned many cases of children in shock, often seeking comfort and clinging to adults when they hear loud sounds. Some children have also started bed-wetting, having nightmares, and asking to sleep under the bed to feel more secure.”

She said while children are resilient and can recover, they urgently need supportive conditions and a protective environment to do so.

The IRC says families in Gaza are eight times more likely to be caring for children that aren’t their own in comparison to typical humanitarian emergency situations

Seven dead in Israeli bombing of Deir el-Balah

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic report that seven Palestinians have been killed, including six children, in an Israeli bombing of a house in the city of Deir el-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

They also reported ongoing Israeli shelling and artillery fire in the Sabra and Zeitoun neighbourhoods southeast of Gaza City.

Palestinian children injured after Israeli strike on Jabalia refugee camp

Several injured children can be seen arriving at a medical facility in the north of the Gaza Strip after an Israeli attack on the Jabalia refugee camp in videos posted on social media and verified by Al Jazeera.

In one video, a young boy screaming with pain is carried onto a hospital bed. He appears to have suffered head trauma and is heavily marked by shrapnel.

The Jabalia refugee camp was set up by the UN in 1948 to house Palestinians displaced after the Nakba – or catastrophe – referring to the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948.

The camp is located in northern Gaza, close to a village with the same name. It had been the Gaza Strip’s most populated refugee camp, also home to 26 UNRWA-run schools.
