It's also about thought control. The US has made Iran and Islam the boogeyman for decades so can't now tell Israel off for attacking Iran. The US needs to keep the black and white view intact so people don't start to realize Iran has no interest in attacking the US. Hence only threats, ironclad support and sending more troops to the ME.
Plus the US is afraid of China and the Global South diminishing US' power grip on the world. China successfully mediates between Iran and Saudi-Arabia, US responds by lifting weapon sanctions on Saudi-Arabia to get Saudi-Arabia back on the 'attack Iran' side and to defend Israel.
