US official says Israel to investigate own crimes; bans unfriendly reporter

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller on Wednesday once again defended Israel, but not the action in Gaza. This time, Miller defended Israel for violence in the West Bank.

Another highlight of today’s press conference was Miller’s angry reaction to a reporter’s repeated attempt to ask a question. Frustrated, Miller later announced that the reporter in question may be banned for the foreseeable future.

Miller also said that Israel will defend own crimes after several Israeli media reported gross abuse by the IDF.

The US State Department called allegations of sexual abuse of Palestinian detainees by Israeli soldiers “horrific” and said Israel must investigate “swiftly” and “fully,” according to a State Department spokesperson.
