Can graphics keep evolving? How? For how long?

Dreamcast felt peak when it came out. Shenmue! Holy shit. Characters look realistic. Lip sync! Hands have individual fingers and veins! Mirror reflections!  Random weather! I can interact with anything! Open any drawer! Flip every light switch. Take pictures off the wall. Pick up fruit or other individual objects. Sports games had mesh in the jerseys on Dreamcast. The basketball court had reflections.

In 1999 it didn't seem it could get better. Now DC and Shenmue look quaint.
