I agree they're not mutually exclusive. And I'm all for more genre diversity. But I remain convinced that the newness of an IP doesn't hold much intrinsic value -- in part because, to me, lore, story, and character are relatively unimportant parts of a game and in part because there are plenty of ways to repurpose a dusty IP and make it feel like a brand new experience. And over the last 40 years, Nintendo has been peerless in that endeavor.
