In theory, they can keep evolving until they are indistinguishable from reality. But in practice, I don't know what good that would do, other than VR purposes. Most people play games to escape reality, not to continue it. So I think we've probably already hit a ceiling there. The push for 1:1 realistic graphics will continue for certain applications, and the Atari-SNES style will likely win out for everything else. Then you'll just choose which road you wanna be on.
