At least 23 people killed in Israeli attacks on Khan Younis
There is a clear military focus on Khan Younis, where at least 23 people have been killed since the early morning hours. Medical teams are trying to recover the injured, but we’re hearing from eyewitnesses that quadcopter drones are attacking them as they try to do so.
The Israeli military is continuing to destroy residential buildings and civil infrastructure in the al-Qarara area, a small village east of Khan Younis, as the security situation deteriorates rapidly. At least five people were also killed in central Khan Younis when a electricity company vehicle was hit.
People have nowhere to flee. Some are heading to al-Mawasi, located west of Khan Younis, which is already overcrowded. Evacuation areas and hospitals are full of people, and humanitarian services cannot be guaranteed even there. Therefore, people are left to live out in the open.
Death toll climbs in Israeli assault on Khan Younis
The Gaza Government Media Office has released updated casualty numbers from the past 48 hours in the southern city after Israel ordered residents to evacuate and began a new offensive.
Here are some of the key statistics from the office’s statement:
- 129 people have been killed.
- 416 have been injured, more than 100 of whom have not yet reached hospitals.
- 44 people are missing.
- 82 families have been evacuated so far.
- 237 houses and residential buildings have been bombed.
“The [Israeli] army targets everything that moves on Salah al-Din Street in Khan Younis,” the office said in a statement, adding that the army is obstructing efforts to rescue wounded people who have appealed for help.
Israeli raid targets residential tower in Nuseirat
An Israeli raid has targeted a residential building in the Ain Jalut Towers area in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic have reported.
The Palestine-based Quds News Network posted footage of the moment in which the building, which it referred to as “Tower 6”, was hit.
