Israel continues nightly attacks on southern Lebanon

Israeli jets and artillery fired on several targets in southern Lebanon overnight, the military said.

“Terrorist infrastructure” and a “weapons warehouse” were attacked by warplanes in the Hula and Aita al-Shaab areas of Lebanon, according to the Israeli military.

Artillery also fired into Lebanon to “remove a threat”, it added.

Israeli warplanes break sound barrier over Beirut

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reports fighter jets broke the sound barrier at low altitude over the Lebanese capital and other parts of the country. In Beirut, residents felt two sonic booms.

Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel are at their worst in decades with cross-border exchanges of fire a daily occurrence since the start of the war on Gaza in October.

Hostilities have largely remained confined to border areas but have been increasing in frequency and intensity, raising fears of a wider Middle East conflict.

School year not to start in northern Israel due to looming war on Lebanon: Minister

Education Minister Yoav Kisch says the school year will not start in northern Israel.

This means that evacuated students will continue to study in other schools and be scattered throughout the country, according to Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

The report said that during a meeting with the Mateh Asher Regional Council in northern Israel, Kisch called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “to act now and strongly against the state of Lebanon”.

“There is no escaping the decision to wage a massive war against Lebanon in order to restore peace and stability to the residents of the north and for the future of the State of Israel,” he said.

Reacting to the news, Avigdor Lieberman, head of the opposition Yisrael Beiteinu party, said, “The failure to start the school year in the north proves that the government does not have a vision and surrendered to Hezbollah.”
