Kamala Harris to tell Netanyahu it’s time for Gaza war to end: Report

An aide to Kamala Harris told Reuter that the vice president and likely Democratic Party presidential candidate will stress to Netanyahu that it is time for the Gaza war to end.

The aide said that Harris wants the war to end in a way where “Israel is secure, all hostages are released, the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can enjoy their right to dignity, freedom, and self-determination”.

Reuters reports that US President Joe Biden is expected to meet with Netanyahu at the White House on Thursday, a day after the Israeli leader delivers a speech to a joint session of Congress.

Harris will meet Netanyahu separately from Biden this week.

Japan set to impose sanctions on Israeli settlers: NHK

The Japanese government is preparing to impose asset-freeze sanctions on Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to the country’s public broadcaster NHK.

The report did not say how many settlers would be sanctioned, but Israeli media outlet Ynet named four individuals expected to be targeted: Yinon Levi, Zvi Bar Yoseph, Moshe Sharvit and Neria ben Pazi.

Japan joins the UK, the US, the European Union, New Zealand and Canada in sanctioning individual Israeli settlers in response to escalating violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Japan maintains warm relations with Israel and does not yet recognise a Palestinian state.
