Netanyahu set to meet Kamala Harris in Washington, DC: Aide

The Democratic Party’s frontrunner for presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, is set to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week in Washington, DC, the Reuters news agency reports.

Harris will not preside over Netanyahu’s address at a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, as she will be in Indianapolis for a previously-scheduled engagement, an aide to the vice president told Reuters.

Netanyahu is still scheduled to meet Joe Biden on Tuesday, after the US president’s announcement on Sunday that he will not seek re-election in November.

Senate committee chairperson to preside over Netanyahu speech in US

Senator Ben Cardin, the chair of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is set to preside over Netanyahu’s controversial speech to US Congress this week, Reuters reports.

Cardin will preside over the address as Vice President Kamala Harris – who serves as the president of the Senate – will not be in Washington, DC on Wednesday, but will meet with Netanyahu separately this week, an aide said.

Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday is set to be boycotted by several high-profile Democrats, including Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

Democratic Senator Patty Murray, who would normally preside in Harris’s absence as president pro tempore, will also not be attending Netanyahu’s address.
