Biden says he will still try to end Gaza war in final months as president

US President Joe Biden has pledged to continue working to end the Gaza war during his final months in office after he bowed out of his re-election bid.

“I’ll be working very closely with the Israelis and with the Palestinians to try to work out how we can get the Gaza war to end, and Middle East peace, and get all those [Israeli] hostages home,” Biden said in a public call into his campaign headquarters, which has transitioned to supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.

Talks between Israel and Hamas over Biden’s ceasefire proposal, which has been on the table for months, are set to restart this Thursday.

Maybe he'll try harder now without having to worry about getting re-elected with support from Aipac.

US humanitarian surgeon says children shot by Israeli snipers in Gaza

Mark Perlmutter, a Jewish-American humanitarian surgeon who spent two weeks in the Palestinian enclave in April and May, has told of Palestinian children being shot by Israeli snipers in Gaza.

Perlmutter told a US broadcaster in an interview published on Monday that “no toddler gets shot twice by mistake by ‘the world’s best sniper’”.

“I have two children that I have photographs of that were shot so perfectly in the chest, I couldn’t put my stethoscope over their heart more accurately, and directly on the side of the head in the same child,” the surgeon told CBS news.

Perlmutter said the “level of carnage” he saw against civilians in his first week in Gaza exceeds all of the “disaster zones [he] has seen combined” in three decades of humanitarian missions.
