How would that work in practice? Azerbaijan and Ukraine do not share a border. For a supply between the two countries, it would have to transit through at least one of the following - Iran, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia, Russia.

Turkey would be fine twisting the knife in Russia, it's only Georgia that we have to be cautious about.
