Defeating Hamas is ‘prerequisite to defeat the axis of evil’: Netanyahu

Netanyahu says the war “will only end after we have accomplished our objectives”, namely destroying Hamas’s military capabilities, freeing the captives and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.

Defeating Hamas is a “prerequisite to defeat the axis of evil,” he told the press conference, referring to Iran and its allies.

He referred to the al-Mawasi attacks, saying that Hamas has been relenting due to Israel’s show of force in Gaza and that the raids earlier today “contributed to that”.

‘Not absolutely certain’ that Hamas’ Deif killed: Netanyahu

Netanyahu says it “is not absolutely certain” that Hamas’ military commander Mohammed Deif and his deputy Rafa’a Salameh were killed in today’s strikes on al-Mawasi. He added that the Israeli military would “one way or another” kill all Hamas leaders.

The prime minister said he approved the strike after receiving satisfactory information on collateral damage and the type of ammunition to be used.

He most likely was never there, just look into the history of the man. Israel doesn't even know for sure what he looks like. The last picture was supposedly leaked in December, the one before decades ago.

But now Netanyahu can use the same excuse for a future massacre.

Netanyahu lays out conditions for captives-ceasefire deal

The Israeli prime minister says he is still committed to Biden’s proposal to end the war, but he spelled out his conditions to finalise an agreement:

  • The “right” to return to the battlefield until all objectives have been met.
  • Preventing weapons smuggling to Hamas through Egypt, “which means continuing our control over the Philadelphi Corridor”.
  • Bringing back as many captives as possible alive in the first round of negotiations.

That's not a ceasefire, it's a temporary pause.

Netanyahu says attempted assassinations hurt Hamas

The Israeli prime minister has suggested that even if the al-Mawasi attack that killed 90 Palestinians did not succeed in assassinating top Hamas officials, it is still beneficial to Israel.

“Just the attempt to assassinate Hamas commanders delivers a message to the world, a message that Hamas’s days are numbered,” he said.

“And this is what I will be doing next week at the US Congress. I will deliver Israel’s message to the United States and the entire world.”

It hurts Biden's re-election chances more than it hurts Hamas. Which is what he wants, Trump to come back in power. Biden is a fool for letting Netanyahu address US congress.

Netanyahu’s speech aiming to show Israel on path to ‘total victory’

Israeli journalist Gideon Levy has told Al Jazeera that the news conference held by Netanyahu “just proved that Mohammed Deif’s assassination – whether it was successful or not – was aimed at public opinion”.

The Israeli prime minister wanted to show the public “that we are on the way to total victory” in Gaza, Levy said. “Ninety people paid with their lives, but this doesn’t interest either Netanyahu,” he added.

The journalist said that the attacks on al-Mawasi were a further indication that Netanyahu has no intention of negotiating a deal with Hamas. “If you go into an assassination operation such as today’s, you don’t aim to get a deal,” he said. “I never thought that Netanyahu wanted to get a deal and today he proved it.”
