Fun bit of trivia for everyone busting out their mimic tear:
During development, the mimic was supposed to be a whole character of their own called an assimi, a sort of doppelganger that you could create, customize, and perhaps even chat with at bonfires and such.
Assimis also apparently tended to 'infect' their creators, effectively merging with them. This would probably have been the explanation for the whole Marika-Radagon and Miquella-St. Trina thing before the shamans and flesh-melding.
By the way, after the DLC, the whole happy family is now tragically gone forever (depending on your playthrough).
