American presidents have been complaining about NATO not spending enough on defense for a long time. But none have tried to use that as a justification to oppose NATO or to distance themselves. It's just Trump being loathsome. 

Yeah, and like I get it, I would want NATO countries to hit 2% too but it's how Trump says it, I'd say "some NATO countries aren't spending enough on their own defence" but Trump's phrasing of "they aren't paying their bills" is designed purposely to make it appear as though NATO countries owe America something but it is not a bill, it is not even a hard rule.

Trump thinks NATO is some racketeering operation where NATO countries have to pay America, Lol.

And the absolutely disgusting thing to say that, Russia can do whatever it wants to America's allies if America's allies doesn't spend 2% on its own military, it's sickening, so Russia can invade, slaughter and kill innocent men, women and children because said country didn't spend 2% on its military, it's actually insane. You put it another way, one day UK drops to 1.9% which means according to Trump's disgusting mind, Russia can then invade UK, slaughter my people and America won't help us.

I'm not happy with some countries not spending enough but it's their damn military and NATO is a defensive alliance, I would be fuming if Germany was invaded by Russia, German citizens were being slaughtered and UK's response was "Well! We aren't helping them! They only spent 1.6% on their military!" You'd have to be completely sick to ignore the cries of help from your allies because of money.

NATO is a defensive alliance and I would want my country to help all its allies.
