Tuesday news, part two:

War Thunder somehow released official art with the debris cloud of the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster as background
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/war-thunder-somehow-released-official-art-with-the-debris-cloud-of-the-challenger-space-shuttle-disaster-as-background/
War Thunder by Gaijin Entertainment is a large-scale military simulation with an emphasis on realism, and the game's known for one thing in particular: a community that just cannot stop itself from leaking classified military documents to win forum arguments about virtual tanks. Well, that and having game footage used (without the studio's knowledge) in the background of Russian propaganda clips.

The latest War Thunder event titled "Seek & Destroy" comes with a new piece of key art featuring three separate images of aircraft in combat. Behind one can be seen a distinctively shaped debris cloud, which features individual debris trails. This unusual shape is one of the most distinctive debris clouds in history: the immediate aftermath of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.

Bungie patches an unknown exploit, but players think it has something to do with an AFK loot farm in private Crucible matches

Bungie has acted as quick as ever to patch an exploit in Destiny 2's private Crucible matches and, while the developer hasn't explicitly said what the issue was, players are pretty sure it has something to do with a specific AFK loot farm.

Black Desert celebrates its 10th anniversary with a brand-new class: a pipe-smoking swordsman who can summon an army of ghost archers

Black Desert celebrated its 10th anniversary this weekend, announcing a raft of new features and detailing long-term plans for the Korean MMO at its annual Heidel Ball event. Held this year in the French castle town of Beynac-et-Cazenac, the event culminated in the reveal of the game's 28th class: Dosa, a pipe-smoking swordsman with a mysterious past and a deeply unusual fighting style.

The eco-puzzler Terra Nil is getting its first major update featuring a 'dramatic overhaul of the wildlife system'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/city-builder/the-eco-puzzler-terra-nil-is-getting-its-first-major-update-featuring-a-dramatic-overhaul-of-the-wildlife-system/
Terra Nil is kind of like a reverse city builder—instead of planning and managing a bustling town, you expand its base into the wilderness that surrounds it, bringing nature back to a desolate wasteland, trying to restore dead biomes as you go. There's already a lot to love with this strategy game, but now developers Free Lives are getting ready to add even more.

Avowed's devs tap the it's not Skyrim sign for the third time in a year (at least), and 'don't love' to compare games, anyway
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/avowed-s-devs-tap-the-it-s-not-skyrim-sign-for-the-third-time-in-a-year-at-least-and-don-t-love-to-compare-games-anyway/
Seeing Obsidian's developers make the same public statement for the third time in a year that the studio's upcoming RPG Avowed isn't like Skyrim reminds me of nothing so much as a prank interview with Elijah Wood—in which the Lord of the Rings co-star Dominic Monaghan torments poor Frodo with repeat enquiries into whether he wears wigs.
Well, it's happened again. This comes after a statement made in June last year, wherein Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart told us that Avowed was no longer like Skyrim. Then an interview with PCGamesN in January, wherein Patel told them that the game was not like Skyrim. This latest assurance comes from GameInformer, who were once more told that Avowed is not (you might want to sit down) like Skyrim.

Tim Cain reveals his involvement in the cancellation of Interplay's Fallout 3: 'I don't think it would have been a game you would have liked playing'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/tim-cain-reveals-his-involvement-in-the-cancellation-of-interplays-fallout-3-i-dont-think-it-would-have-been-a-game-you-would-have-liked-playing/
The original isometric Fallout games were developed by Black Isle Studios in the 1990s, after which the series went on a longer-than-expected hiatus. Publisher Interplay was not having a good time of it in the early 2000s, and one of the projects causing it trouble was the next mainline Fallout game: codenamed Project Van Buren, but for all intents and purposes, Fallout 3.
Tim Cain, producer on the original Fallout, has in recent years been posting YouTube videos in which he reminisces about the Black Isle days and some of the defining games he and others worked on. Cain's latest video focuses on Project Van Buren, though he wasn't at Interplay at the time: Cain had left Interplay to co-found Troika Games (best-known for Vampire: The Masquerade—Bloodlines).

EverQuest players want 'a hard game' because 'the challenge leads to a sense of accomplishment,' says designer
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/everquest-difficulty-fippy-fest/
Shadow of the Erdtree is upon us, and with it the latest round of discussion about difficulty in videogames. But as much as I'm looking forward to traversing the Land of Shadow, I've instead spent the last couple weeks exploring the history of another difficult game, EverQuest.
Last week, developer Daybreak Games flew me out to San Diego to observe Fippy Fest, a celebration of EverQuest's 25th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of its sequel, EverQuest 2. That both games are still going strong is a testament to the ongoing legacy of a genre-defining game and the tenacity of its players and developers. One of the main reasons design manager Adam Bell thinks EverQuest has such a hold on players' hearts, a reason I heartily agree with, is that the game is tough as hell.

Shadow of the Erdtree's unmasked NPC faces prove once again FromSoftware is the king of completely unnecessary details
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/shadow-of-the-erdtrees-unmasked-npc-faces-prove-once-again-fromsoftware-is-the-king-of-completely-unnecessary-details/
Not many of us had the time to study the face of Logur the Beast Claw as he took swipes at us in the beginning of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, but if you were to get a good look at his face, you'd see that he is indeed a reference to X-Men's Wolverine: He's shirtless, fights with claw weapons, and seems to come at you in a rage. It's too specific, and FromSoft is already prone to putting popular references in NPC invaders.
Zullie the Witch, a regular FromSoft dataminer, recently dropped a video with a number of Shadow of the Erdtree NPCs unmasked—as she did previously with the original game. Logur's scruffy face isn't the only surprise from the video; we also get a peek under the hoods (and helmets) of Lady Leda, Freyja, Hornsent, Ansbach, Thiollier, and Moore—members of the crew who recruit you at the start of the DLC.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail's preliminary patch notes are here—showing fixes to those annoying stealth quests and the ability to banish NPC-crowding players to the shadow realm

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is coming at you fast. With a 48 hour maintenance due to start tomorrow, and early access beginning on Friday, it's time to plonk on your sea legs and head to Tural—but not before obsessively coming through some patch notes, of course.
>> And S-E asks those that will play it earlier to be nice with the spoilers.
