Certainly in some key markets (market saturation), but the amount Sony sold to retail their last two fiscal years is still stunning.
FY2006 14.71 (FY ended 31 March 2007)
FY2007 13.73 (FY ended 31 March 2008)
That's many millions more than the 360 or Xbox sold per year during its prime time. We don't get much data from South America, Eastern Europe, India, etc. Next year we'll know how much potential was still left in the PS2 sales wise, when Sony annnounces how many they've sold to retailers worldwide.
