"The G80SD is Samsung’s first AI-powered gaming monitor, equipped with the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor found in the company’s 2024 Neo QLED 8K TV. This processor enables AI-upscaling capabilities, improving content quality and games to “nearly 4K” resolution when accessed through the monitor’s built-in smart TV apps and Gaming Hub. This feature only works for content that is shown on the monitor’s built-in software, like Xbox Game Pass streaming or Netflix."

Why the F does a monitor need smart TV BS? There's already enough spyware in every thing we have, we don't need more of it.

Other than that, I'd glad we're starting to see more and more 27" and 1400p  OLED monitors, a combination that seemed impossible not so long ago. It's still extremely expensive for someone like me, but at least there are more of them, which is nice.

I mean, it's an OK feature. The Samsung upscaler does cause a slight watercolor-like effect but it does go a long way in relieving that horridness in any image not displayed at native resolution in LED displays.

Makes me wonder if FG is included as a feature too. I don't see why not at this point.

The upscaling is nice, but it shouldn't need to be tied to only a few functions from their smart TV stuff. It could have been a simple toggle in the monitor menu for you to turn on or off.

To be fair, there is an advantage to having smart TV functionality built into your monitor and that is the streaming services actually giving you 4k instead of 1080p. Sadly a lot of streaming services detect the web browser on the PC and limit the streaming quality. But if you use Apple TV or Firestick or Chromecast or in this case, Samsungs Tizen OS and use the apps from the streaming services, you can actually get the 4k stream.

Personally, none of their features are really a must have over their competitors. But boy, $200 below the cheapest QD-OLED monitor out there with these features is certainly eye catching.

I know it's odd, but I'm not subscribed to any streaming platform. I don't watch a lot of TV and there's already way too many options to watch for free without having to add the ones from paid services. Sure, I miss some of the excitement over some shows like Game of Thrones (tho it spared me from that ending) or Stranger things that everybody talks about, but that only last for so long so no biggie.

Therefore, to me, all of that smartTV stuff is an extra that not only gets in the way the upscaling tech of this monitor, but also adds extra cost and a delay in the responsiveness of the TV (like taking longer to switch between channels).

Keep it for TVs but leave it out for monitors, please.
