US weapons used by Israeli forces to kill ‘children without restraint’: Rights group

A children’s rights group has called on the US to stop sending weapons that the Israeli military uses to kill Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank.

Defense for Children International Palestine said the killing in Jenin of two 15-year-old boys by Israeli snipers on Tuesday morning – one of whom was “returning home from school on his electric bicycle” – underscored the regular use of lethal force against Palestinian children by Israel’s military “in circumstances that may amount to extrajudicial or wilful killings”.

“The United States must stop sending weapons to the Israeli military that are used to kill Palestinian children without restraint, whether in Gaza or Jenin,” the organisation said in a statement.

Half of all Israeli military brigades in Gaza deployed to Rafah battle: Monitors

Five of the 10 Israeli military brigades deployed in the Gaza Strip are now operating in Rafah, where Israel’s ground forces are pushing deep into the centre of the southern city, war monitors report.

According to the latest battlefield report by US-based defence think tanks, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and the Critical Threats Project (CTP), Israeli forces operating in Rafah are advancing along the Philadelphi Corridor, a 14-kilometre (8.5-mile) strip of land between Egypt and Gaza.

According to the ISW/CTP report, Israeli warplanes have been hitting targets in eastern Rafah to “shape the terrain for follow-on ground operations”.

In a post on social media on Wednesday, Israel’s military said its air force had attacked approximately 130 targets across Gaza over the previous day.
