Monday news, part two:

Animal Well's solo dev casually reveals that the breakout metroidvania left 'at least twice as many rooms that are in the game' on the cutting room floor
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/animal-wells-solo-dev-casually-reveals-that-the-breakout-metroidvania-left-at-least-twice-as-many-rooms-that-are-in-the-game-on-the-cutting-room-floor/
Goodness, hasn't Animal Well done… well? Launching to almost universal acclaim, the breakout metroidvania looks like it's teed itself up to become the next Hollow Knight. (...)
The game's success, though, is primarily down to Animal Well's maestro of a solo dev Billy Basso who made the dang thing. As if making Animal Well wasn't impressive enough, he also revealed in an interview with our friends over at Edge magazine (as part of their most recent issue) that he had a lot of rooms during the design phase that didn't make it down the well.

Healers in FF14 get that awful sinking feeling as Yoshi-P cheerily announces a major buff to an ability mainly used for resurrection
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/final-fantasy/healers-in-ff14-get-that-awful-sinking-feeling-as-yoshi-p-cheerily-announces-a-major-buff-to-an-ability-mainly-used-for-resurrection/
Final Fantasy 14 has had its last "live letter" before Dawntrail—live streams which clue players in on what they can expect in the next expansion. This time around, Yoshi-P revealed a ton of new info about job (class) changes that'll be coming with its latest expansion, Dawntrail.
Among a very flashy and exciting trailer showing off all the new toys we'll be getting, the game's director Naoki Yoshida (better-known as Yoshi-P) worked through several of the more granular tweaks to jobs. One seemingly innocuous update, however, has the game's healers clutching their staffs, nautiloids, and fantasy tarot decks: Swiftcast's getting buffed.
>> Another change is a 60 minutes period to change your character after using a Fantasia potion.

Always-online free-to-play ARPG relaunches with an offline mode, zero microtransactions, and an upfront price: 'We're in uncharted territory, and it's a big risk'

Developer Airship Syndicate has announced the resurrection of its action RPG Wayfinder, but with a difference: it's junking all the stuff players hated the first time around. In its previous form Wayfinder was always-online, featured microtransactions, and was free-to-play. Now it'll have an offline mode, no microtransactions whatsoever, and an upfront price tag of $25 in early access (first spotted by Kotaku).

Jake Solomon's upcoming life sim will create a cast of characters for you in a way that almost sounds like Dwarf Fortress
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/jake-solomons-new-life-sim-will-create-a-cast-of-characters-for-you-in-a-way-that-almost-sounds-like-dwarf-fortress/
Former XCOM lead and pillar of strategy games Jake Solomon announced this week that he's co-founded a new studio and will be working on a life sim game, of all things. As it turns out, he's actually been hoping to work on a relationship simulation for a very long time.

'I have this problem where once I start, I can't stop': Eric Barone discusses how Stardew Valley has affected work on his upcoming game Haunted Chocolatier
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/i-have-this-problem-where-once-i-start-i-cant-stop-eric-barone-discusses-how-stardew-valley-has-affected-work-on-his-upcoming-game-haunted-chocolatier/
It's no secret that the developer of Stardew Valley, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, has poured his heart and soul into creating and refining the beautiful life-sim game. But like most things, this dedication can be a double-edged sword, as it has also stopped him from working on Haunted Chocolatier, his next game.
"[Fan expectation] definitely puts pressure on me," Barone says in an interview with Aftermath, "but it's better to have a delayed game that's actually good than a bad game that's on time. When it's ready, that's when I'll release it. I'm not too concerned with the pressure. I don't feel like I owe anyone anything when it comes to Haunted Chocolatier. It's a game that I'm deciding to make. I don't need to make it."

Redfall is getting one final update before Arkane Austin is gone forever, and it will include an offline mode
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/redfall-is-getting-one-final-update-before-arkane-austin-is-gone-forever-and-it-will-include-an-offline-mode/
Last week's closure of Arkane Austin (along with Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Games) spelled the end of the line for its not particularly well-received co-op FPS Redfall, and any shot it may have had at a Cyberpunk 2077-style redemption tour. But it's getting one final update before the end comes, which among other things will include a long-awaited offline mode.

Fallout is coming to Fortnit
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/battle-royale/fallout-is-coming-to-fortnite/
War never changes, but Fortnite sure does, and soon it will change yet again: The Fortnite Twitter account teased today that Bethesda's famed RPG series Fallout is on its way to the game.

New MultiVersus character is bad news for the guy who said 'if Banana Guard gets added I will cut my balls off'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fighting/multiversus-banana-guard-announcement/
Banana Guards are minor characters in Adventure Time. They look like banana popsicles, and aren't an obvious pick for the ensemble roster of Warner Bros fighting game MultiVersus, which could include lots of better-known cartoon characters. The Powerpuff Girls are expected, for instance, but there's still been no reveal. Banana Guard, however, just made the cut, and some fans cannot accept it.

With a month to go until Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, FromSoftware has broken its silence once more to show us a messed up new guy we'll fight in the expansion

Truly, there are few games that could work me into a lather with a single, context-free image of a new enemy, but Elden Ring is certainly one of them. The official Elden Ring Twitter account casually dropped the new nasty boy—who was not featured in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion's first trailer—this morning.

Wizard with a Gun adds 4 player co-op to its action crafting mix, and it's free to try for the weekend
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/wizard-with-a-gun-adds-4-player-co-op-to-its-action-crafting-mix-and-its-free-to-try-for-the-weekend/
There are plenty of survival crafting action sandbox games, but only one of them is purely focused on the concept of being a wizard with a gun*. That's the aptly-named Wizard with a Gun, which got an upgrade to four-player co-op this past week in its new Better Together update and so I guess they'll have to rename it to Wizard with a Gun and Several More Friends.
To celebrate it's free to try on Steam this weekend, and 50% off until May 23 if you'd like to buy.
>> It’s a bit late to make use of the free weekend, only 2 hours left as of posting this, but at least you can take advantage of the discount.
