Given how much unlocked Switch can be overclocked, they just might opt this time for less conservative clocks with active cooling in the dock. |
Yeah a 30-40W docked Switch 2, would be pretty decently performant, especially if the memory bandwidth and capacity rumors are true as well. Even if they stick with Sammy 8nm, which seems very much unlikely given the release date and the re-confirmation of 12SM for the T239.
That'd put it quite a bit more performant than a Rog Ally with the Z1 Extreme for a few reasons:
1. Similar max TDP.
2. 20% more memory bandwidth (Rog Ally's main bottleneck.)
3. DLSS is more efficient for the same image quality than FSR (currently.)
For the most part most people run games on the Rog Ally at Series S level graphics and performance settings, but with about 50-70% of the internal resolution as the Series S.
So I'd expect image-quality for this rumored Switch 2 to be somewhere in between a Rog Ally and Series S, with graphics quality and performance in titles being roughly similar to those two.
Makes sense, because in 2025 I expect the top-end gaming handhelds (basically Rog Ally 2, Legion GO 2, etc.) with RDNA 3.5 to get close to or even exceed Series S performance levels when "docked" (connected to charger and running at 30-40W TDPs.) This hypothetical Switch 2 (when docked) would be a quarter-tier below those handhelds but a quarter-tier above the current Rog Ally.
