UAVs launched from Iran bound for Israel: Reports

We are getting reports that UAVs have been launched from Iran and are headed for Israel. Israel’s Channel 12 TV news reports that Iran has launched dozens of pilotless aircraft at targets in Israel and that their flight time was expected to take hours.

An expert interviewed by the channel, retired General Amos Yadlin, said the drones were equipped with 20kg of explosives each and that Israel’s air defences were ready to shoot them down.

Barak Ravid, a political reporter for Axios, posted on X that Iran has launched an attack against Israel using dozens of drones, citing four US and Israeli officials.

Washington says Iran has begun an airborne attack against Israel, which is likely to unfold over several hours.

National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement that President Joe Biden is regularly updated by his national security team and is in constant communication with Israeli officials, US partners and allies.

Israeli airspace will be closed to arrivals and departures as of 22:30 GMT, according to the national airports authority.

Reuters, citing two regional security sources, reports that Jordan’s air defences are ready to intercept and shoot down any Iranian drones or aircraft that violates its airspace. The sources said the army was also in a state of high alert and that radar systems were monitoring drone activity.

Reuters, citing army sources, reports that Syria has put its Russian-made Pantsir ground-to-air defence systems on high alert around the capital Damascus and major bases in the event of Israeli strikes.

The sources said they expected Israel would respond to any attack from Iran by targeting army bases and installations where pro-Iranian militia are based.

Lebanon announces temporary closure of its airspace

The Lebanese government says it will reopen its airspace at 7am local time (04:00 GMT).



The IRGC has released a statement

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has released a statement saying: “We launched an operation using drones and missiles in response to the Zionist entity’s crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Syria. “The operation was carried out with dozens of missiles and drones to strike specific targets in the occupied territories.”

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, made the statement in a post on X alongside a video in which he stated that the Israeli “regime” is all “malice, evil and error”.

Sunak condemns Iran’s attack against Israel

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has condemned Iran’s attack on Israel as “reckless”, adding that Britain would “continue to stand up for Israel’s security”.

“Alongside our allies, we are urgently working to stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation. No one wants to see more bloodshed,” Sunak said in a statement.
