Five aid workers, including four foreigners, killed in Israeli attack on Deir el-Balah
Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary confirmed the killing of the aid workers, including Polish, Australian, and UK passport holders. A Palestinian was also killed in the attack, which hit the car the aid workers were travelling in.
The humanitarians, working for World Central Kitchen, were brought to Gaza’s al-Aqsa Hospital.
It is believed they are the first foreign aid workers to be killed in Gaza since the war began.
People ‘amazed and astonished’ that Israeli forces targeted foreigners: AJ correspondent
Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary, reporting from the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah, said the bodies of the aid workers have arrived to the medical facility.
The scene is “very frustrating and horrifying”, she said. “Everyone in the hospital is amazed and astonished, they don’t believe Israeli forces targeted internationals,” Khoudary said.
“Earlier today … I talked to these aid workers, I asked them questions … and I saw them today killed. We saw their IDs, we saw their passports,” she said.
The group was on their way back from “dispatching the aid from a convoy that arrived from Cyprus earlier today,” Khoudary said. “This is how they were targeted, on their way back to their guest house in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip.”
Gaza media office confirms foreigners among aid workers killed
A spokesman from Gaza’s media office has confirmed that among the five aid workers who were killed in an Israeli air attack in Deir el-Balah are a UK national, an Australian and a Polish national.
He said a fourth foreigner has not yet been identified and the fifth is a Palestinian.
Israeli military investigates ‘incident’ after 5 aid workers killed in air strike
The Israeli military said it was investigating “to understand all the circumstances of the incident” after five aid workers with the World Central Kitchen (WCK) were killed in an Israeli air strike following the delivery of food relief in central Gaza.
Despite killing hundreds of medical and relief workers in Gaza since the start of its war on the Palestinian territory and blocking aid supplies, the Israeli military said early on Tuesday that it “makes great efforts to enable the safe passage of humanitarian aid” into Gaza.
The Israeli military also said that it “works in full cooperation and coordination with the WCK organization in order to support their efforts to provide food and humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip”.
WCK founder Jose Andres called earlier on Israeli forces to stop the “indiscriminate killing” in Gaza after confirming that several staff were killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza.
Gaza media office says aid workers killed ‘in cold blood’
A spokesman from Gaza’s media office said Israeli forces killed the aid workers in Deir el-Balah “in cold blood”.
“Today, victims of this genocide include four foreigners who were working with an organisation in Gaza,” he said. “It is time for this war to come to an end immediately.”
Australian PM wants ‘full accountability’ as Australian among aid workers killed in Gaza
Australian Prime Minister Antony Albanese has offered condolences to the family and friends of Australian Lalzawmi ‘Zomi’ Frankcom, confirming she was one of several World Central Kitchen aid workers killed in Gaza.
Albanese also said he has contacted the Israeli ambassador to ask for “full accountability” regarding the attack which reportedly killed Frankcom and four others.
Five aid workers latest among hundreds of humanitarians killed in Gaza
The latest deadly attack on aid workers in Gaza comes as hundreds of humanitarian and health workers have been killed since October last year as Israel’s war on the besieged enclave continues.
According to the most recent figures, these include:
- 174 UN staff killed, including 171 UNRWA staff. The UN has said this is the “largest single loss of life” among its staff members in the organisation’s history.
- 348 health workers killed, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
- 48 members of the Civil Defence killed while on duty, according to the government media office in Gaza.
- 15 Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) staff and volunteers killed.

I wonder what this means for the ships with 400 tonnes of aid which are due to arrive tomorrow.
(They already arrived, unloaded 100 tonnes, the aid workers killed were there to distribute the aid, rest of the unloaded aid is heading back to Cyprus)
Meanwhile bombings of civilians across Gaza continue as well as raids and arrests in the West Bank. No sign at all of the latest ICJ statement nor the UNSC call for immediate ceasfire and increase in humanitarian aid being heeded at all. But why would Israel listen with the US sending them 2.5 billion dollars worth of more bombs and busy approving selling more fighter jets to Israel.
It's time to boycott the US as much as Israel.
