It would be great if some consulting firm conducted a study in that regard. The hardware actually in Japan could be more like 28m and 3m for the Switch and the PS5 respectively for all we know.
A 10-20% smaller market would make more sense not only software-wise but also considering PC growth and their demographic decline since the 90s and the 00s. Japan's market was already waaay more saturated than the US and Europe so I doubt it grew more in relative terms.
