Wednesday news, part two:
Your sick kickflips were the reason why other players kept crashing in Destiny 2, but now everything's been put right

Destiny 2 players have been experiencing an increasing number of crashes in the last week and it looks like all fingers are pointed at the new Skimmer, but unfortunately, there's also an unknowing accomplice: You.
Update: You are now free to do all the kickflips you could ever want, as Destiny 2's 7.3.5.1 update fixed the issue that was causing the game client to crash if players decided to try performing rapid boosts or other tricks. However, you may have to wait a bit longer as maintenance is still taking place, and downtime was extended—an update on this is expected within the next hour, according to a Twitter post from Bungie Help.
The original artist behind Minecraft's pixel art recalls Notch asking them to help out on his 'weird indie hobby game'

You know all the tiny, pixelated paintings that you can decorate your walls within Minecraft with? Many of them were created by Swedish artist Kristoffer Zetterstrand, who "shrunk down" photos of his oil paintings to produce the now iconic pixel art canvases.
On Twitter, Zetterstrand recently reflected on his contribution to Minecraft and shared the png that started it all.
Final Fantasy 14 won't let you blast past its story for free anytime soon because Yoshi-P worried 'the value of the game itself will be diminished'

Director and producer Naoki Yoshida has squashed the possibility of introducing a new alternative starting point in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail.
(...)
The possibility of a skip to allow people to join the story during the post-Endwalker patches was discussed last year, so in a recent interview I did with Yoshida, I thought I would bring the question up again. Sadly, nothing is in the works anytime soon. "For the story we are not currently planning any kind of new skip feature," Yoshida said. "This is something I'm constantly torn about, and we have already finished implementing a feature that allows players to learn about the story, setting, and characters even when they skip the story."
>> At least he’s open to more FF7 crossover content on the game, but not until the remakes are done.

Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren has been shown the door, as the board of directors has decided that it is in need of "different leadership" to take the company forward. The move comes just six months after the catastrophic launch of struggling heist-shooter Payday 3.
Eric Barone goes mad with power: He's revealing a single Stardew Valley update patch note every day
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/eric-barone-goes-mad-with-power-hes-revealing-a-single-stardew-valley-patch-note-every-day/
"Power tends to corrupt," Lord Acton warned us in 1870. "And absolute power corrupts absolutely." Those words carry no less weight today than they did 150 years ago, and I can think of no more pointed example of the truth of his caution than that of Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone, who has clearly gone mad with the kind of power only attainable as a successful indie game developer: Stardew Valley's tyrant king is now taunting his long-suffering followers with a slow-drip release of patch notes for the upcoming 1.6 update.
>> At least he has confirmed that harvesting from left to right was, indeed, a bit faster. And also a bug that will get fixed.
Star Wars Jedi director who left Respawn in 2023 to 'pursue other adventures' reveals that his other adventure is a new game studio called Giant Skull

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen said when he left Respawn in September 2023 that he wanted "to pursue other adventures," and now we know what he meant. Asmussen announced today the launch of a new studio called Giant Skull, "dedicated to building gameplay-driven, story immersed action-adventure games set in captivating worlds."
Yoshi-P reflects on Final Fantasy 14's stress-free casual content: 'looking back over the past 10 years, I think we may have overdone it a little bit'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/final-fantasy/yoshi-p-reflects-on-final-fantasy-14s-stress-free-casual-content-looking-back-over-the-past-10-years-i-think-we-may-have-overdone-it-a-little-bit/
I like Final Fantasy 14 a whole lot—but, like so many in the non-raiding crowd, I'm thirsty for a little more challenge. As I mentioned in my retrospective earlier this year, the game suffers from a kind of polarised difficulty, where non-organised raid content is a smidge too easy, and organised raid content is appropriately hard—but really the only thing going when it comes to challenge.
Fortunately, that's something the game's director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) seems to be aware of, as per a Famitsu interview translated by Automaton. Speaking with Famitsu, Yoshida says: "In the course of FFXIV's development, we have tried to make the game more comfortable and stress-free for players, but looking back over the past 10 years, I think we may have 'overdone it' a little bit."
Konami's latest Metal Gear Solid masterstroke is releasing a patch to fix MGS1's worst bug that doesn't work
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/konamis-latest-metal-gear-solid-masterstroke-is-releasing-a-patch-to-fix-mgs1s-worst-bug-that-doesnt-work/
The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection released in a bit of a state. (...)
But today Konami released patch 1.5.0 for the MGS Master Collection, fixing a small smattering of bugs across all six games and, crucially, announcing it had "Fixed an issue in which analog input did not work as intended" in the first MGS. Well, people were positively giddy: "Certainly a massive W," said a fan on Reddit. "This is great news! Keep up the good work!" said a Steam Forums user.
But having just spent far too long testing the patch myself, here's the thing: It doesn't work.
>> Disappointing, but not surprising.
CCP reveals first details of survival game set on a single shard in the EVE universe, but wait: here comes the blockchain
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/ccp-reveals-first-details-of-survival-game-set-on-a-single-shard-in-the-eve-universe-but-wait-here-comes-the-blockchain/
EVE developer CCP games announced last year it was working on a blockchain-based game set in the space MMO's universe, codenamed Project Awakening, and has now revealed the first details and an upcoming playtest. The Icelandic studio rather boldly says this is the next step in its quest to "create virtual worlds more meaningful than real life." Goodbye to my children: I love you but you really oughta try this new CCP joint.
Veteran Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu believes settling for Hollywood-style scores means 'game music cannot develop further'
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/veteran-final-fantasy-composer-nobuo-uematsu-believes-settling-for-hollywood-style-scores-means-game-music-cannot-develop-further/
Videogame music never ceases to amaze me. Whether I'm listening to Nero's battle theme, Devil Trigger, from Devil May Cry 5 or immersing myself in the beautiful Peruvian-inspired soundscape of Ultros, the creativity and breadth on offer is astounding and something to celebrate. Well, at least that's what I thought. It turns out that Nobuo Uematsu, the veteran Final Fantasy composer, thinks we can do better and that Hollywood may be holding us back.

Deep Rock Galactic devs drill for a Helldivers 2 collab, stream the game just to say please, pretty please don't leave us on read
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/deep-rock-galactic-devs-drill-for-a-helldivers-2-collab-stream-the-game-just-to-say-please-pretty-please-dont-leave-us-on-read/
Deep Rock Galactic and Helldivers 2 have a lot in common. They're horde-shooters about deploying to hostile planets where you shoot bugs—still, a crossover hasn't emerged yet, though that's not a shocker. Not only has the game been out for just over a month, it's also been bombarded with major server issues thanks to its runaway success. It's safe to assume that Arrowhead Games has been very busy, in the same way that the ocean is very wet.
That hasn't stopped the charmingly chaotic scamps over at Deep Rock Galactic developer Ghost Ship Games (who recently mobilised its fanbase into making 'dwarf' an official Steam category) from shooting their shot. As spotted by GamesRadar, the developers streamed Helldivers 2 over the weekend as a gesture of good will to Arrowhead Games.
