I love Vanillaware's unique approach to gameplay. It seems like their main focus is on storytelling but they still manage to find an interesting way to keep the gameplay engaging.
So far with Unicorn Overlord, they're really embraced the idea of 'tactical' gameplay; it literally only gives you control over tactics and maneuvering your troops, with no actual hand-on gameplay/input during the battles. You actually feel like a general commanding your troops, having to watch them battle based on your instructions and preperations rather than directly controlling them.
It may be a red flag for some thinking of Final Fantasy XIII and another game that just plays itself, but the tactical preperations in Unicorn Overlord make perfect sense for a game in this genre.
