CRT TVs are certainly not without their own set of problems, but for 2D games of 8/16 bit era I find them to be exactly what those games were counting on (though later CRT TVs, from 00s, were maybe even a bit "too good"). For 3D era, I don't mind rendering games with higher res internally and with plenty of AA (thus not being completely faithful to the original), so they look quite nice on modern TVs. EDIT: Found this nice comparison from NES version of Wizardry https://vgdensetsu.tumblr.com/post/179656817318/designing-2d-graphics-in-the-japanese-industry |
What I would like to see is a company go back and build a CRT for a modern market... Because I feel there is a large and growing market who are advocating for the older type displays in recent years.
Won't ever happen because the factories that made the individual components no longer exist.. But I would love a large modern CRT.
